The Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) has partnered with Kutch-based women's organization Ujjas Mahila Sangathan, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a dedicated center for women empowerment in Gopalpuri. The center will offer skill development, livelihood training, legal aid, and health awareness programs, with a funding commitment of Rs 119.48 lakhs.
The center, set to start in March 2025, will train 1200 women in various skills to earn a livelihood at the renovated Kendriya Vidyalaya building at Gopalpuri. After the first year, Ujjas Mahila Sangathan will manage the center's self-sustainability.
Ujjas Mahila Sangathan, started in 1989, has been working for women's economic, social, and political empowerment. This collaboration empowers women in Gandhidham and surrounding areas, offering self-reliance opportunities and addressing development challenges.
Ujjas Mahila Sangathan (UMS) is a community-based organization in Mundra Taluka, Gujarat, established in 1989. It mobilizes and organizes rural and semi-urban women to empower them economically, socially, and politically. UMS aims to eliminate violence against women, improve economic security, address health issues, and enhance participation in local governance. With over 4500 members, UMS has built strong relations with local government.
Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), formerly Kandla Port Trust, is a major Indian port on the Gulf of Kutch in Gujarat. Established in 1955, it handles various commodities and has extensive infrastructure. DPA is involved in development projects like a ship-repair hub and a shipbuilding cluster.
