National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar emphasized the responsibility of everyone to ensure workplaces are women-friendly. She called for proactive steps to instill confidence and create a safe environment for women, urging office heads and colleagues to hold quarterly review meetings.
NCW Chairperson also called for public awareness campaigns about district-level Local Complaints Committees for women in unorganized sectors and praised initiatives like the "Hirkani Katta" grievance cell and the QR code-enabled "Dial 112" project for enhancing women's safety. She also emphasized the responsibility of all workplaces to create a safe environment for women, urging Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs) to hold quarterly review meetings and ensure fair resolution of complaints. Ms Vijaya addressed ICCs members and heads at a review meeting at the Latur collector's office, discussing the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013.
Vijaya Rahatkar was appointed as the chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW) on October 19, 2024, succeeding Rekha Sharma. She has been actively involved in women's rights and empowerment for years. She has advocated for policies and initiatives addressing issues like gender-based violence, workplace harassment, and women's health. She has also supported programs aimed at empowering women economically and socially, such as SHGs and skill development initiatives.
