Distinguished Scientist Shailaja Donempudi to Lead CSIR's Business Development Group

- Shailaja Donempudi, former scientist at CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT), gets new assignment.
- Recruited as a Distinguished Scientist (DS) by CSIR Headquarters, New Delhi
Dr. Shailaja Donempudi, a senior scientist who is research- and innovation-conscious, has been appointed as a Distinguished Scientist to head the Business Development Group (BDG) at CSIR Headquarters, New Delhi.
In a landmark move, she is the “first woman in CSIR's 80-year history” to hold this leadership position a first that marks both her individual achievement and the increasing number of women scientists and leaders.
Her association with CSIR started in 1993 at Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT) straight after having earned her Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry from Osmania University. She has also done M.Sc. and M.Phil. from the University of Hyderabad.
During the last 28 years, Dr. Shailaja has developed a very strong track record in polymer research involving synthesis, characterization, and technology development. Her appointment is a reflection not just of her academic qualifications but also puts her at the center stage of CSIR's initiatives towards industry interfaces and growth through innovation.
Since 2017, she has been Chair of Business Development and Research Management at CSIR-IICT, where she was instrumental in developing collaborations and strategic partnerships. Her meaningful career and science contributions were brought to the limelight in the documentary "Ladies in Labs," which was produced by AVRC, Osmania University, and broadcast on Doordarshan.
