  • The Digital Naukri Challenge had announced four winners at an event held in Bengaluru
  • These winners hope to provide employment for 5,000 women via flexible digital jobs within the next nine months
  • Each firm was awarded ₹35 lakh in milestone funding

Four organisations were declared winners during the Digital Naukri Challenge, which took place in Bengaluru.

The participating companies, namely B2R Technologies, Futwork, Karya, and Myna Mahila Foundation, will aim to create digital livelihoods for 5,000 women within the next nine months, making a total of 30,000 digital livelihoods created overall. A milestone prize of ₹35 lakh was awarded to each finalist organisation.

The initiative, which involves a period of 18 months, is implemented under The/Nudge Prize together with Mphasis, via the Mphasis F1 Foundation.

It aims to solve the workforce participation issues facing women in India, especially women from the age of 25 to 40, who may face difficulties due to factors such as mobility and childcare.

Over the first nine months, 11 organizations working in 13 states of India conducted pilot programs on digital-based work models in areas such as agriculture, health care in rural regions, BPO services, data services, and edtech platforms.

The organizations were rated based on their capacity to offer work to at least 500 disadvantaged women earning between ₹200-₹500 per hour for 10 days every month while providing flexibility in terms of time and location.

Of the four programmes, BPO & AI-Driven produced the most positive outcomes. Work associated with Smartphone Apps took less time to onboard participants; women with physical disabilities could access these work opportunities. Conversely, BPO workers, whether local or remote, typically earned a higher wage with less variation in pay from the previous month.

Participants' income varied considerably by each Programme used in this study; BPO workers engaged in remote work made their average monthly income paid at a higher rate than did participants performing work using Smartphone Apps.

Additionally, there was less variability month after month in the amount paid per BPO worker compared to participants working on a task basis.

Now that they have completed Phase One of the Challenge, the four selected finalists are now in the Scalability Phase of the Challenge.

During this phase, the finalist organisations will focus on scaling their business ideas while maintaining accessibility, sustainable incomes and the safety of their workers. The four selected finalist organisations collectively expect to create more than $10 million of new livelihoods through this project.

The final point that the Challenge has highlighted is the evolution of digital work, especially how generative AI will impact the demand for tasks and how the trend toward higher-wage jobs such as: AI Evaluation & Quality will continue to accelerate.
