Devi Ahilya Bai's 300th Birth Anniversary to Spotlight Women Empowerment in Bhopal

  • The principal event will take place at Jamboree Ground in Bhopal
  • Almost one lakh women are likely to be present at the event

The big celebration marking the 300th birth anniversary of Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar would take place on May 31 at Jamboree Ground, Bhopal. Themed on women empowerment, the celebration would see participation of almost one lakh women. On the occasion, the Government of India would launch a special commemorative postage stamp and coin in honor of Lokmata Devi Ahilya.

The decisions were made at a meeting of the organizing committee, presided over by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. Addressing the meeting, Yadav underscored Lokmata Devi Ahilya’s legacy of good governance, local development, and balanced administration. He complimented her dedication to public welfare and women's empowerment, attributing her critical leadership in encouraging cultural nationalism through religious and cultural activities across the country.

In her honour, several activities based on such values will be held during the tercentenary year. The chief minister also urged increased academic research into Devi Ahilya’s work and emphasized coordinating with other state governments to facilitate mass participation.

The meeting had transport and school education minister Uday Pratap Singh, state minister for culture Dharmendra Singh Lodhi, chief secretary Anurag Jain, principal secretary of tourism and culture Shiv Shekhar Shukla, and committee member Megha Pawar present along with other officials. Other members such as Mala Thakur, Vinita Dharm, Jyoti Tomar, and Rakesh Denia also participated remotely.
