Delhi Govt Considers Renaming Mahila Samridhi Yojna
By: Women Entrepreneurs Review Team | Tuesday, 7 July 2026
As per reports, the Delhi government is considering renaming its Mahila Samridhi Yojna as Delhi Laxmi Yojna prior to the launch of the scheme.
The scheme is said to offer financial support of Rs 2,500 per month to the eligible women and has been considered as one of the prominent promises of BJP in the Delhi Assembly election campaign of 2025.
As per sources, the government has created an online registration portal and a mobile app for women as well, that will help improve their safety and accessibility to government schemes with ease. As per sources from the government, the portal for the proposed scheme has already been developed and would soon be launched following the official launch of the scheme.
Approximately 17 lakh women, who belong to the economically weaker sections, would get benefited through the scheme.
The scheme will be launched by the Women and Child Development Department, under the aegis of Chied Mninister Rekha Gupta. Earlier, the launch was scheduled to be made on June 1; however, it is delayed as the government is planning to rename the scheme.
Key Highlights:
- Delhi may rename Mahila Samridhi Yojna as Delhi Laxmi Yojna before launch
- Eligible BPL women with Delhi Aadhaar to receive Rs 2,500 monthly assistance
- Rs 5,100 crore allocated; scheme to benefit nearly 17 lakh women in Delhi
In order to implement the scheme, the Chief Minister sanctioned an amount of Rs 5,100 crore for the scheme shown in the 2026-27 Budget of Delhi that was presented in March. An equivalent amount had also been sanctioned last financial year. But the implementation has been postponed since the government wanted to develop a fool-proof method for verification of the beneficiaries through verified data.
The Chief Minister has repeatedly said that the scheme would only be implemented once the verification process has been developed, as she did not want public money to go to the undeserving people.
For monitoring the implementation of the program, the Delhi government formed a high-level committee chaired by the Chief Minister in March last year. The committee includes many Cabinet ministers who have been assigned with the task of overseeing the implementation and reviewing the eligibility criteria of the program.
Further sources revealed that now the eligibility criteria have been finalized. According to the criteria, women possessing a valid Delhi Aadhaar card and belonging to the below poverty line (BPL) group can benefit from the program.
