Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Opens Budget Session; Focus on Infra, Women, & Yamuna Cleanup

The budget session of the Delhi Assembly started on Monday morning with the first budget of the newly formed BJP government to be tabled on Tuesday. The session will begin with a kheer ceremony. Infrastructure, water supply, de-silting the Yamuna, and monthly financial aid for women will be the top priorities.

Health and education will also be top priorities for the new government. The session will end on March 28. The Delhi CM will also table the CAG report on the performance of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

'Viksit Delhi Budget' addressing media persons at the Delhi Secretariat, Rekha Gupta revealed that 10,000 "suggestions and expectations" were received from the citizens of Delhi through WhatsApp and email for the Budget. The budget is likely to be more than Rs 80,000 crore, sources said.

Speaking at a press conference, Rekha said, "The Budget will focus on meeting the basic requirements of the people and will have measures for the generation of employment." She underlined that the Budget is in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a 'Viksit Delhi' and has been designed after extensive consultations with different sections of society, including experts. "We got 3,303 suggestions through email and 6,982 through WhatsApp from stakeholders," added the Chief Minister.

In a unique beginning to the session, she announced that the Budget session would be kickstarted with a 'kheer' ceremony on Monday.
