  • The CSK university has set up a marketing and sales platform named “Hunar Haat” on its campus
  • The facility has been inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor
  • The initiative is aimed at providing opportunities for rural farmers to connect with consumers

Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishwavidyalaya has established a marketing and sales platform named Hunar Haat at the university campus to promote rural entrepreneurship and women farmers.

Hunar Haat has been established at Gate No. 3 of the university and was inaugurated by A K Panda, Vice-Chancellor of the university. This has been done to enhance the livelihood of the people at the grass-roots level.

The Vice-Chancellor has emphasized the importance of institutional support in directly reaching out to the consumers by the producers, specifically the women farmers who usually lack the opportunity to reach the formal market.

The university has reiterated its commitment to promoting the development of innovation, value addition, and the development of start-ups to ensure the economic stability of the farmers.

Hunar Haat has been established as a single-point destination for products produced by women farmer interest groups, self-help groups, technology licensees, and agriculture-based start-ups.

Established with the support of the All India Coordinated Research Project on Women in Agriculture and the start-ups incubated through the Him Palam RKVY-RAFTAAR program, which specifically aims at promoting the participation of women in the field of agriculture and related sectors.

The outlet will also offer various organic and value-added products such as pickles available in season, preserved food items, nutrient-dense flours, baked food items, and traditional handcrafted items like hand-stitched bags and local art and craft items.

This will help reduce intermediaries and ensure that producers receive fair returns while also providing consumers access to locally sourced products.

According to Chanderkanta Vats, Dean of the College of Community Science at the university, “The project is expected to help rural women achieve economic independence. This is also a step towards community service for us.”
