Congress to field 40% Women Candidates in 2022 UP Polls

The UP Congress will be giving 40 per cent of its tickets to women in the 2022 Vidhan Sabha elections, in a bid to attract and consolidate women power towards the grand old party.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, in charge UP and party national general secretary, made an official announcement in this regard at the UP Congress headquarters. She also said that had just her will prevailed, she would have reserved half the tickets for women.
Inviting women to apply for different seats till November 15, Priyanka also said that selection of women candidates will be based purely on merit.
The rape survivors, kin of victims and young girls who want actual development inspired Priyanka to take this decision.
“We at Congress Party have pledged to give 40 per cent of all tickets to women candidates in 2022 Vidhan Sabha election,” Priyanka said announcing the decision.
She said, “This decision is for every single woman in UP who wants change, believes in unity and stands for justice. Who struggles to give a better life to her family and her state.”
She told women, “women have to rise up and join hands if you want real change. No one is going to change your fate. You will have to get up and take charge. Everyone keeps making promises of providing a safe environment for women but when time comes to deliver, they end up saving the ones who trample you.”
Priyanka also said that the government has become synonymous with someone who can and who is crushing the innocents. Stating that prevailing circumstances were wrong and unjust, she said, “Women can change this norm. Because they are harbingers of change. They are sensitive, firm, ready to serve, and take care of everyone around them. I urge women to shun their differences and join hands with the Congress Party and change the course of the nation for the better.”
The Congress party also run several creative and hashtags to fuel the campaign.
