- Comedian Sharul Channa is coming back to India for her ‘Women’s Day Tour’
- The ‘Saree, These Are Just Jokes Tour’ will take place in Coimbatore, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune, Baroda, Chandigarh, and Hyderabad
Renowned worldwide for her comedy, award-winning Singapore-born comedian Sharul Channa is one of Top 10 Comedians of Asia, and the only full time female Comedian in Singapore performing Standup Comedy.
She will now be performing in India on her anticipated national tour "Saree These Are Just Jokes" with scheduled dates as follows: March 13 - Coimbatore; March 14 - Chennai; March 20 - Bengaluru; March 21 - Mumbai; March 22- Pune; March 26- Baroda; April 3- Chandigarh; April 5-Hyderabad.
As a female comedian in an overwhelmingly male dominated industry she has carved out a place for herself in the comedy industry with her distinct, daring, wittily brilliant, and real humour that her fan base across India will enjoy.
One of the most important reasons why this tour is unique is to mark the 15th Anniversary of Sharul’s stand-up comedy career as well as to be the first time an Indian Singaporean stand-up comic has done a major tour through eight of the major Indian cities. This tour will also be a celebration of the cultural transfer between India and Singapore:
Since she is partnering with Suta (a saree brand that operates as a women’s co-operative) established by Sujata and Taniya Biswas as a wardrobe sponsor.
Suta has a reputation for making beautifully crafted sarees that combine traditional craftsmanship with modern design and therefore would be a perfect wardrobe sponsor for this tour.
Sharul discusses the importance of her upcoming tour of India as, “This trip to India is special because it’s not only the first time I’m returning to the country as a comedian, but I also return as an empowered woman who has established her comedic style and voice across cultures and boundaries“.
As part of the tour, Sharul will be creating and sharing new comedic material that explores modern ideas around being a woman, multicultural identity, relationships and how society has created barriers for women to face each day, as well as other issues that affect women, all delivered with her signature humor and honesty.
With tickets for Hyderabad already sold out and strong interest in other cities, the tour is creating much excitement in the cities where it will occur.
