In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the oldest stock exchange in Asia and leading stock exchange in India, along with SheThePeople (the largest women’s focused channel in Asia), and UN Women (United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women) hosted the “Women Empowerment in India through Capital Market” Conference on March 8th, 2026 at BSE’s International Convention Hall.
The Conference was structured around three major goals: (i) the exhibition of growing number of women entrepreneurs in both for-profit SMEs and in not-for-profit businesses; (ii) the representation of women from many different industries as speakers and panelists; and (iii) the demonstration that women have a significant effect on changing both economically and socially for India.
As part of the Conference, BSE hosted the “Ring the Bell for Gender Equality” ceremony, a global initiative supported by UN Women, IFC, Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative, UN Global Compact, and World Federation of Exchanges.
Now in its 12th year, the campaign recognizes and affirms the commitment of global markets and organizations towards gender equality by ringing the bell. Some of the participants included MSCI, the European Union, and Women in ETFs.
The bell was rung by special guests: Maninder Cheema, Executive Director (ED), SEBI; Sundararaman Ramamurthy, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO); and Kamala K., Chief Risk Officer (CRO), BSE.

"The future of successful entrepreneurship lies within the women of our country," said Paula Kauffman, CEO of Women's Capital Developments. "Women must overcome barriers that prevent their success; and technology provides the best way to do that."
"The key to the continuing growth of successful women-led businesses worldwide lies in equal access to financing and capital," said Trish Keller, Partner at Evergreen Venture Partners L.P.
"Women entrepreneurs and their businesses are the foundation for rebuilding and redefining our communities," said Deborah C. Sinclaire, Founder of the San Diego-based Sinclaire Group.
