- Rs 1,000 crore disbursed to 10 lakh women, with each receiving Rs 10,000 via DBT under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana
- 1.56 crore women beneficiaries have received since the scheme’s launch in September 2025
- Women who use the funds for self-employment will be eligible for additional assistance of up to Rs 2 lakh
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has released Rs 1,000 crore to 10 lakh women under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, reinforcing the government’s push for women-led economic empowerment. Each beneficiary received Rs 10,000 through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to help women start small-scale self-employment ventures.
Launched in September 2025, just ahead of the state assembly elections, the scheme has since grown into one of India’s largest women-focused economic initiatives. According to Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar, 1.56 crore women have benefited from the program so far, with Rs 15,600 crore already transferred before this latest transaction. The minister added that women who successfully invest the support amount into income-generating work will become eligible for additional assistance of up to Rs 2 lakh.
The initiative has also shaped Bihar’s political landscape, with women voting in unprecedented numbers during the recent elections that brought Nitish Kumar back to power for a fifth consecutive term.
Addressing concerns about delays and corruption, the government clarified that beneficiaries must register with local Jeevika self-help groups to qualify, and that efforts are underway to ensure that all eligible women receive the funds. Minister Shravan noted, “The scheme makes it clear that recipients of the aid must get registered with a Jeevika self-help group in their area. Those who have not done so are being persuaded to do the needful, and they will get the benefit.”
