India’s women’s cricket system is entering another phase of long-term expansion, with the BCCI moving to deepen its development infrastructure through a new set of specialist coaching appointments at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. In the women's pathway, former India players Nooshin Al Khadeer, Sunetra Paranjpe and V.R. Vanitha is on board to look after the program of the bowlers, batters and fielders respectively, according to a report.
With the rapid growth in the commercial and competitive side of women's cricket in India, the BCCI is increasingly focused on succession planning and the development of specialists in the women's sport.
The growing momentum of Women's Premier League, investments towards building infrastructure within the country, along with the victory of the Indian women's team in the World Cup last year, has helped the board to shift the emphasis towards nurturing talent identification and elite preparation program below the senior national team.
Former India Women’s Team Captain Diana Edulji told TOI: “It’s a good step by the BCCI. It shows how much women’s cricket has grown in India, and that the BCCI is taking it very seriously. This trio will enable us to build the bench strength of women’s cricket in the future.”
Former India Captain VVS Laxman is leading the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, which plays a pivotal role in the BCCI's vision for high-performance development, rehabilitation strategies and the grooming of emerging players in age-group cricket.
Key Highlights:
- Board of Control for Cricket in India named Nooshin Al Khadeer, Sunetra Paranjpe and V.R. Vanitha as specialist women’s coaches
- The move strengthens India’s women’s cricket development pathway and talent pipeline
- The appointments come ahead of the England tour and 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup
Of the new appointments, Nooshin is a trainee with a wealth of experience in international and age-group coaching. The former ODI off-spinner was responsible for the 100 wickets in the ODIs, and also led the Under-19 Women's team to T20 World Cup victories in 2023 and 2025.
Paranjpe is well known for her performances in domestic women's cricket and has led Mumbai to back-to-back domestic women's T20 championships in 2023-24 and 2024-25. During her playing days, the former India all-rounder had represented her country in both Tests and ODIs.
When it comes to coaching, Vanitha has also had experience working with the women's game where she served with India in T20I and ODI cricket from 2014 to 2016.
The appointments take place before a big international stretch for India Women as they are on a road trip to England ahead of the 2026 Women's T20 World Cup.
India, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, has been placed in Group A with Australia, SA, Pak, Bangladesh and the Netherlands for the England and Wales tournament. The campaign starts at Edgbaston on 14th June against Pakistan.
The England tour will also feature a one-off Test match at Lord's on July 10–13, which will be the next in the pipeline to further bolster the coaching and development system that will benefit India's future women's teams.
