Asmita Rugby League to be held in Assam Promoting Women's Participation in Sports

The Asmita Rugby League will kick off in Tamulpur, Assam, on November 9 and 10, 2024, at the Goreswar Higher Secondary School. This exhilarating tournament is part of the flagship Khelo India Initiative Asmita Leagues, which aims to promote women's participation in sports across 18 disciplines at inter-district, zonal, and national levels.
The event boasts a total prize pool of Rs 3 lakh, with winners receiving their awards via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. An amount of Rs 2.6 lakh has been granted by the National Sports Federation to support the event. Rugby League will be held in three categories: Under 15, Under 18, and Senior and around 288 athletes from 24 teams will take part. The tournament will be inaugurated by Pankaj Chakraborty, Deputy Commissioner of Tamulpur district.
Asmita signifies identity and self-respect that reflects the initiative's goal to boost women's confidence and visibility in sports offering a platform for women athletes to showcase their talents and gain experience. These events foster community, foster solidarity, and nurture young talent, potentially leading to national and international opportunities. Successful athletes serve as role models, inspiring more girls to pursue sports and achieve their dreams.
