Artist Akshita Gandhi Launches NFT Dedicated to Female Empowerment and Sustainability
By: WE Staff | Friday, 21 January 2022
Akshita Gandhi, a Mumbai-based photographer and multimedia artist, has listed her first NFT, "Gaia." Part of a series of NFTs that take on the serious issues of female representation and sustainability in a lighthearted manner.
The NFT, which promotes environmental consciousness, is a 10-second film with a starting price of 0.45 ETH on the Throne marketplace. The backdrop to "Gaia" is a painting by Gandhi intended to instil hope in the face of adversity.
It was crucial for Gandhi to begin the NFT in close cooperation with women. To create "Gaia," she collaborated with Throne Creative Directors Chimere Cisse, a former Burberry communications officer, and Sotheby's Institute alumnae Julia Pavlovska.
She is encouraging more women to step up and use their creative skills combined with tech knowledge to create in this new medium,” Pavlovska added. In 2022, the women will integrate Gandhi's work in physical NFT displays, as co-founders of the art advisory Art|Krero.
Despite the fact that crypto art has been dubbed the "great democratizer of the art world," data from Art Tactic released in November 2021 revealed that just 16% of NFTs sold in the previous 21 months were created by women. Furthermore, the majority of blockchain technology has a significant carbon footprint, which has a negative influence on the environment.
Gandhi, whose work frequently addresses social issues, has created NFTs that combine her paintings and digitally manipulated photographs with text snippets that promote female empowerment and sustainability, in order to inspire a shift toward female inclusion and environmentally conscious practises within the rapidly growing NFT space.
"NFTs will empower the worlds of finance, art, and pop culture to embrace blockchain technology," Adam Strauss, a former Nike brand specialist and now the Chief Strategy Officer at Throne, said in Forbes. This fusion of art, music, and film is especially relevant in the Indian NFT setting, where Gandhi is becoming more active.
Gandhi aims to effect real change through her NFT. She's teamed up with Nori, a carbon removal marketplace, and will donate 2.5 percent of all sales and resale earnings to the firm for carbon removal, ensuring that her NFT sales benefit the environment. To disseminate her message, the artist has a collection of all-female-created NFTs, a developing Twitter profile, and is fielding speaking requests. The remainder of the NFT is as follows:
