Amazon India has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Pinkishe Foundation, She & WE – Women Entrepreneurship Foundation, and Vedanshi Foundation to support nearly 500 women entrepreneurs associated with its menstrual hygiene initiative, ‘Prayatna’.

The program is designed to support women-led businesses in India producing these menstrual hygiene products to reach out to their customers through Amazon Saheli, an initiative launched by Amazon.in.

Prayatna or ‘effort' is an initiative of Amazon India that focuses on the community and aims to raise awareness, increase access to affordable menstrual hygiene products, and establish entrepreneurial opportunities through women-led manufacturing units near Amazon operational sites.

Key Highlights:

  • Amazon’s Prayatna supports ~500 women entrepreneurs via Amazon Saheli partnerships
  • Enables nationwide selling of menstrual hygiene products through Amazon.in
  • Focuses on women entrepreneurship and menstrual health awareness

The partnership will provide women entrepreneurs involved in the programme with assistance to sign up on the Amazon marketplace, expand the customer base and enable them to expand their businesses across the country.

Salim Rafik Memon, Director – Operations, Amazon India said, “We believe in contributing meaningfully to the communities where we operate. Through Prayatna, we are working to improve menstrual health awareness, increase access to hygiene products, and support women-led enterprises. We are excited to collaborate with Pinkishe Foundation, She & We Foundation and the Vedanshi Foundation through Amazon Saheli. This will help women entrepreneurs expand their businesses, connect with more customers across India, and create greater impact within their communities.”

Women entrepreneurs under the programme make products like sanitary pads, maternity pads, panty liners, reusable cloth pads and others related to hygiene in the manufacturing units set up at Amazon's operations centres. The products are being sold in the local market and in the Amazon fulfillment centers and will now also be available to the customers across the country through Amazon.in.

Currently, Amazon India has three manufacturing units in Bengaluru and Hyderabad with partner organisations. These units reach and involve approximately 500 women entrepreneurs in producing, selling and sensitizing the community.

Menstrual waste management, women entrepreneurship, Menstrual health awareness and access to affordable menstrual products are also important areas of focus of the programme.

Prayatna has touched the lives of over 270,000 women and girls in over 130 villages and 14 cities in India in 2025. With a goal to reach more than 400,000 women and girls by 2026, Amazon is looking to scale the programme.
