- UP Government expands its ‘One-Stop Centres’ initiative
- 17 additional Centres to be set up in different Districts of UP
- Centres aim to offer Immediate Support and counseling to Women in Need
The Uttar Pradesh government is expanding its 'One Stop Centres' initiative to 17 more, providing immediate relief and comprehensive support to women affected by violence. The centers aim to provide immediate support and services like medical assistance, legal aid, counselling, and police support, all in one location, improving women's safety, dignity, and empowerment. These centres, in close coordination with the central government, will provide immediate relief and holistic support for women affected by violence.
The scheme was initiated in 2015-16 with 100 per cent central funding and received significant momentum after 2017 under Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The scheme has been running under the state's Women and Children's Development Department, ensuring that safety, support, and justice are served to women across every district.
The centres act as 'Sankatmochan,' offering immediate relief while also helping in rehabilitation and social reintegration for women victims of violence. With 79 operational centers across 75 districts in UP, the scheme has helped more than 2.1 lakh women and girls in need.
The government of India has approved the establishment of 17 additional centres in Uttar Pradesh (UP) to address the growing population and needs of the region. These centres will be equipped with emergency vehicles for rapid response. The new centres will be established in Lucknow, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Lakhimpur, Kehri, Bareilly, Kanpur Nagar, Gautambudhnagar, Meerut, Gorakhpur, Saharanpur, Jhansi, Agra, and Bijnor.
