MoSPI reports Indian Women own 42.2% of Bank Accounts in Rural Areas

According to India's Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) report, women own 39.2 per cent of all bank accounts, contributing a total of 39.7 per cent deposits. It also noted a higher proportion of 42.2 per cent in rural areas. This indicates significant financial inclusion for women, particularly in rural areas.
Female participation in stock markets and entrepreneurship has also increased, with the number of demat accounts held by women growing fourfold between 2021 and 2024. It shows that demat accounts have grown fourfold from 33.26 million to 143.02 million in the span of four years.

Female Students' Enrollment in Higher Education surpasses Male Counterparts in UP: Report

The Income-Expenditure Report 2025-26 from Uttar Pradesh's Directorate of Higher Education shows a significant increase in female students pursuing higher education than males. For the 2024-25 academic year, there were 4,21,453 more female students enrolled in 7,984 colleges compared to male students.
The UP Higher Education department reports that there are 24,53,758 male students in the state for 2024-25, while 28,75,211 are female, resulting in 4,21,453 more female students. In addition to this, during the 2023-24 academic year, 54,76,441 college students, including 26,68,971 boys and 28,07,470 girls, enrolled, with 1,38,499 more girls than boys.

Nagpur Police Issues New Protocol to Speed Up Response in Crimes Against Women

Nagpur police commissioner Ravinder Singal on Tuesday issued orders to establish a clear-cut protocol for dealing with crimes against women with the aim of taking swift and effective action as well as timely filing of chargesheets.
While reviewing the city’s flagship ‘Police Didi’ initiative meant to raise awareness and build trust among girls and women in local communities Ravinder stressed that investigation officers should not wait for the official deadline to file chargesheets. He highlighted the Beltarodi police’s swift action in filing a chargesheet within 48 hours in a recent case as an example to follow.

CM Rekha Gupta Calls for Shift from Protection to Empowerment of Girls

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta made it a point on Wednesday to stress that attention must now shift from the point of only securing and educating girls to positively empowering and enhancing their lives. During the event "Samanvay: Celebrating a 100 Years Legacy" at Indraprastha College for Women, she promoted 'Beti Badhao' as the next necessary step towards driving women's empowerment.

Haryana Govt Introduces 'Saheli' Initiative to Combat Female Foeticide

The Haryana government has introduced the 'Saheli' initiative, assigning a caregiver to each pregnant woman. The initiative also aims to combat female foeticide by enforcing the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act (PC&PNDT).
The caregiver (Saheli), either an Anganwadi Worker (AAW) from the Accredited Social Women and Child Development Department or an Accredited Health Activist (ASHA) from the National Health Mission (NHM), will provide continuous care and emotional support from the first trimester until childbirth.
