Reema Deb: A Veteran Of Interior Design With Phenomenal Track Record

Reema Deb
Founder & Managing Director

Let’s recollect the famous quote by Charles Mingus, the American jazz bassist ~ “Creativity is more than just being different. Making the simple, awesomely simple, that’s creativity”. The inspirational journey of Reema Deb (Founder & Managing Director, Moh Interiors) resonates with the essence of this quote. Since childhood, Reema Deb (personally Ruchira Deb) has had an inborn character to create simple yet highly inspiring new articles from waste materials. She also completed numerous courses in oil painting, watercolour, decoupage and ceramics, which ignited her new passion for decorating interior and exterior of houses. Since then she never looked back and today, she outclasses as a renowned business leader in the interior design industry with over 20 years of profound experiences. She also cherishes a phenomenal track record of time-bound project execution, planning resource deployment optimization, and people management.

Unlike her peers in the industry, Reema deeply understands the value of transforming someone’s house into a home with a soul and also believes in creating memorable spaces that they feel proud to own! To learn more about her entrepreneurial story, delve into the following snippets of an exclusive colloquy between Reema and Women Entrepreneur India magazine.

Brief us on your educational & professional background prior to establishing moh interiors.

Despite hailing from a family of engineers, I decided to plunge into the world of arts to quench my creative soul. Hence, I pursued Bachelor of Arts from Allahabad University and also a Diploma in Fashion & Textile Printing from Ruchi’s Institute of Creative Arts. My professional journey started as an Art & Craft Teacher at Sarathi School in 2000 followed by a faculty position in Hyderabad Institute of Fashion Technology (HIFT).

“Besides 20+ years of profound experiences, reema cherishes a phenomenal track record of time-bound project execution, planning resource deployment optimization, and people management”

For five years after this stint, I took a sabbatical leave to focus on my growing family and later put myself on track to live my passion for interior design. In 2005, I forayed into designing furnishings from home and came-up with my first designer bedsheet samples using pretty saree cuttings. These bedsheet samples gained great admiration from diverse ladies who approached me with their sarees in bulk to make quilts, curtains, bedspreads, cushion covers, table cloths and others by mixing laces, ribbon and matching material. That was the first step I put forward towards living my passion!

How has your journey at moh interiors been so far?

It all began in 2007 when I laid the foundation for Moh Interiors, which is presently a leading brand that specializes in aesthetic interior designing, civil construction and architectural design. Back then, I kick-started my entrepreneurial journey by executing turnkey interior projects in Hyderabad and its surrounding areas, while we signed-up with projects from Raipur, Allahabad and Lucknow later on. Simultaneously, I played the role as a fashion coordinator, incorporated an institute for fashion & interior design, and worked with major companies such as Magic Bricks Infra and Paul & Associates for my father’s business. With a staggering success rate and top clientele vouching for our quality, work and dedication, Moh Interiors soared high as one of the leading interior design firms in Hyderabad.

Walk us through the excellence of moh interiors.

At Moh Interiors, I currently oversee the end-to-end design operations of interior and exterior of villas, malls, hotels, resorts and others including joinery, fit-outs, coordinated RCP, MEP, HVAC architecture layouts, HOP marketing layouts, lighting conducting & coordinating, FF drawings, and GFD & GFC drawings. Breathing the tagline – Dreams, Desire, Design; we undertake full turnkey projects of clients (post BOQs are signed), and execute them in tune with their taste, budget and requirements. In fact, we attribute our success to fulfilling all our clients’ choices and changes whenever they required.

Moreover, I strive to convince them that the best product comes from a mixture of design and trend and not just by spending a colossal amount of money. We are proud of the fact that we have successfully designed many beautiful dream homes with smaller budgets too! Behind this excellence stands our team of six qualified architects and devoted interior designers with extensive experiences and expertise.

What are your current and future plans for the firm?

Currently, we are working on various villa projects in Hyderabad, Goa & Vikarabad, a major design project in Orissa, and another project in Bengaluru. We also have design projects of the Central Mall, Shopping Mall in Bangkok, Apartments in Singapore, and a few others in our pipeline.

For the road ahead, I envision taking Moh Interiors to incredible heights while empowering the underprivileged people with potential employment opportunities.

Cast some light on your diverse interests apart from your profession.

Besides interior design, I have a great zeal and passion for philanthropy. Hence, I proactively participate in mentoring and incubation of new businesses which keeps me grounded and also infuses a sense of satisfaction and completion into my zestful spirit.
