With this same spirit in her heart, Dr. Bobby Goswami Baruah is changing lives every day in her inspirational role as a Mentor, Coach, and Career Counsellor. She believes that with a positive outlook and with the right guidance, direction, and motivation, achieving any career goal is possible.

Bobby holds a Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from North Eastern Hill University (Meghalaya) along with a Bachelor’s degree in Science from Cotton College, Guwahati. Apart from this, she is a Green Belt Certified Global Career Counsellor from the University of California, and a Certified Career Analyst from Edumilestones, Bangalore. She is leveraging her extensive experience in the field of Guidance and Counselling and thirteen productive years in the education industry in teaching and as a library professional to lead her foundation, Dumick Educational Consultancy, and provide apt career guidance to students based on their specific potential and area of interests.

She is a self-driven, dedicated, and determined leader always ready to offer a helping hand when it comes to providing the right career guidance to the students. Let’s hear it from Bobby.

What motivated you to establish Dumick Educational Consultancy?

My journey as a career counsellor began when I realized that I need to do something that gives me a sense of satisfaction. Besides, during my stint as a librarian, I got the opportunity to minutely observe that students these days have a big mix match of what they are doing and what they're interested in doing. The thought of working closely with students and guiding them as per their interests, skills, and abilities to help them reach their correct career destination has been the main motivation behind establishing Dumick Educational Consultancy.

How does your vast industry experience empower you to be a better leader today?

I began my career in the educational counseling domain with very little knowledge and experience. However, in the past 4.5 years, I have been successful in counseling thousands of students and working professionals from different parts of India, Qatar, Malaysia, Bangladesh, and Dubai. My focus has always been to guide students with the right career opportunities as per their passion, skills, and capacity. At Dumick Educational Consultancy, we use scientific psychoanalytic tools to evaluate the strength of the students and counsel them by explaining the findings of the report to make them self-aware. This facilitates logical decision-making in deciding one's career. Through our deep knowledge of universities across the globe, their curriculum, and their academic strength, by means of our association with them, we are very well placed to guide students from various academic interests to join the right institutions.

What are some of the most critical challenges you encounter as a coach & mentor in today’s times? What steps do you undertake to overcome them?

The most critical challenge that I encounter as a coach and mentor is that most students in today's times are highly confused regarding their career choices. This is because of the vast career options available today. While having multiple career options is not a bad idea, one should be clear enough about what to choose and what not to. The choices have to be synchronized with one’s potential, personality, academic qualification, and passion. The clarity factor is something that I found missing in many students and it became a challenge for me to declutter their minds and help them zero in on one thing that can help them excel in the future. For this I got through multiple one-on-one counseling sessions and career assessments that helped me find out whether a particular candidate's career interest complies with his or her abilities or not.

What factors make you a strong and efficient business leader? What is your success mantra?

Through my past experiences, I have learned that having flexibility helps professionals to try new approaches and ideas which can broaden their horizons. Secondly, I put a lot of emphasis on good communication skills; effective communication is something that we enhance over time and when it comes to counseling it is very important to be a very good listener. I also strongly believe that persistence is something that has helped me survive in this cut-throat competition. My entrepreneurial journey so far has been full of opportunities to learn and grow which inspires my success mantra - to always keep the zeal for learning alive. I believe only with continuous learning we can achieve what we want and we can evolve both at the professional and personal level.

As the Founder, what is your vision for Dumick Educational Consultancy’s future?

My vision for Dumick Education Consultancy’s future is to expand its operations by opening up various new branches in major cities of India. I believe it will help students to have a quick point of contact for their queries, counseling purpose, and application submission. Additionally, I am planning to make capital out of technology in the form of an app for streamlining important operational activities while building more transparency with the students.
