Bindu then shifted to corporate roles that widened her knowledge and skill. How did your family and early life experiences influence your decision to pursue a career in law?
I come from a science background, and I was always drawn to the world of technology and computers. I was also deeply influenced by my father, who worked as an ATV government leader, and my mother, a dedicated teacher. Their discipline, public presence, and resilience inspired me throughout my early years and shaped my interest in understanding how systems and institutions function.
My decision to pursue law after marriage was also influenced by my husband, a commercial pilot and a highly respected professional, who encouraged me to study law and supported me as I balanced family responsibilities and raising children. I completed my degree and began my legal practice in 2001, and my early years strengthened my interest in exploring different areas of law, eventually leading me to various corporate roles.
I face challenges daily, relying on my legal knowledge and experience to handle matters efficiently and independently
How has your career evolved and what shaped your growth?
I completed my law degree in 2001 and began my career under T. Prosper, assisting with criminal matters and writ petitions. I then moved to Chennai to work with K.C. Rammati, focusing on DRT cases. Later, at Idea Cellular, I practiced law while handling HR matters, learning discipline, case management, and precision from my mentors.
Seeking broader exposure, I joined Broniatis, where I managed diverse matters and reported directly to Ingrid, gaining confidence in decision-making. I then worked with Tonglit and T-Rex, experiencing varied industries like computers, watches, sales, and services, and now oversee legal responsibilities at all levels within T-Rex.
At Cutler Clock, I expanded into HR, contracts, and compliance, growing into independent management. Previously, I was Assistant Manager at Tramler Aqueducting Company, handling legal support. Since December 2020, I have been with TVS, where my judgment in business-related legal decisions is highly trusted.
How has your diverse legal experience shaped your approach to complex legal matters?
I have developed strong expertise across multiple areas of legal work, including registrations, compliance, research, and litigation, with a clear understanding of identifying and managing critical legal issues.
My experience in contract management is extensive, covering negotiation strategies, contract drafting, and handling complex discussions with banks, vendors, and various stakeholders. I also manage litigation, consumer cases, and strategies for recovering outstanding amounts from clients and collectors.
Throughout my career, I have learned to navigate diverse situations arising during contract execution and legal proceedings. Collaborating with teams across industries has strengthened my ability to deliver practical legal solutions.
Additionally, I gained valuable hands-on experience implementing the CLM (Contract Lifecycle Management) tool, which enhanced my understanding of automated contract workflows and modern legal operations, allowing me to streamline processes and improve efficiency in managing contracts.
Tell us about TVS Electronics and your role as Senior Legal Manager.
TVS is a manufacturing company that assembles and sells a wide range of electronic products, including CCTV cameras and POS machines, while providing service support. The company is expanding into EMS, SaaS-based solutions, and renewable energy, taking on maintenance projects for solar and renewable plants and exploring new areas of electronic manufacturing.
I joined TVS as a Legal Manager, focusing on contract management, a role I continue to handle. Over time, I have been entrusted with significant decision-making authority, resolving critical legal matters, and managing contractual and business risks independently.
I have worked extensively on contract strategies, negotiation processes, and legal documentation. A key contribution was suggesting and implementing the CLM (Contract Lifecycle Management) tool.
I led its implementation, managed integrations, and streamlined contract processes across functions, enhancing operational efficiency and strengthening contract governance, while applying my legal expertise to support TVS’s growth.
How do you handle challenges in litigation and IP matters?
I chose this profession knowing challenges are inherent, and I face them daily. Each matter brings new complexities, especially during disputes, and I rely on my legal knowledge, courtroom experience, and practical understanding of litigation to handle them efficiently. My focus is on managing litigation cost-effectively and minimizing dependency on external forces.
Wherever possible, I handle matters internally, prepare responses to legal notices, and make decisions based on my assessment. Negotiations may stall if parties are unresponsive, but the process must still be managed with clarity and preparedness.
In intellectual property, we proactively identify potential issues and observe how systems and processes operate. While situations can be demanding, we approach them independently, ensuring all matters are addressed with the right legal strategy.
