Astri Silviani: An Inspiring & Dynamic With Exceptional Achievements

Astri Silviani
Chief People Officer, Delution

In the ever-evolving landscape of the HR industry, effective leadership plays a crucial role in driving organizational success. While many HR leaders can be found across organizations, only a few present such effective leadership, dedication, and passion that they get chosen as CEOs in appreciation of their accomplishments. One such HR, CPO, and CEO is Astri Silviani. Associated with THE DELUTION COMPANY, she brings an extensive hands-on experience to the team. We learned more about her in this interview, here are some highlights.

What are some important facets of your life and professional journey that you wish to highlight through the article?

Throughout my extensive 15+ years in the field of human resources, I've had the privilege of collaborating with diverse industries. These professional encounters have greatly enhanced my understanding and awareness of the pivotal role human resources play in driving success across all industries. I perceive my role as that of a strategic business partner, actively working in collaboration to attain the company's objectives and aspirations.

Take us through your educational background and the prior industry experience that you bring to the table.

I have obtained a master's degree in Organizational and Industrial Psychology, along with an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Padjadjaran University in Indonesia. Prior to becoming the Chief People Officer at THE DELUTION COMPANY, I held the position of Head of HR at PT. Dayalima Abisatya, a leadership firm specializing in comprehensive HR services.

Introduce us to THE DELUTION COMPANY. Tell us about the various responsibilities you shoulder as the Chief People Officer at the company.

THE DELUTION COMPANY is a holding company that aims to 'Create Iconic Spaces Through Iconic Experiences'. Since its establishment in 2013, the company has consistently presented unique and legendary project concepts. Our aspiration is to be at the forefront of Indonesian civilization's growth in terms of architectural planning and interior design. Currently, we have seven business divisions: DELUTION Studio, DELUTION Home, DELUTION Build, DELUTION View, DELUTION Land, DELUTION Arranger, and INSTAL.

As the Chief People Officer (CPO), my role involves translating the company's strategy into HR strategy and implementation. I often envision this task as constructing a house, where the company's objective is the roof, and the business drivers, systems, and processes act as pillars. The foundation is built upon human resources and infrastructure. Since assuming the position of CPO, I have developed an HR roadmap that outlines both short and long-term goals. Additionally, I have created a one-year action plan with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure the successful execution of the program. Over my tenure of 1.5 years as CPO, I have successfully completed all the programs, which led to THE DELUTION COMPANY's recognition and the establishment of a new subsidiary in late 2022 called INSTAL. INSTAL is an HR consulting firm that aspires to be the go-to strategic partner, and I have been appointed as its CEO.

“As CPO, I am responsible for translating the company's strategy into hr strategy & implementation”

In your opinion what are some of the most pressing business challenges you face as an HR leader in today’s business climate? What steps do you undertake to overcome these roadblocks?

The pandemic unquestionably had a profound effect on our business, especially since we provide specialized services that are not universally essential. We faced a challenging period during the outbreak when all our construction, interior design, and corporate design agreements were delayed or put on hold by clients. In response, we thoroughly evaluated our strategy and key factors driving our business, resulting in the identification of four crucial drivers: employee engagement, sustainable growth, fostering an efficient culture, and driving process innovation. Currently, we are successfully navigating the obstacles imposed by the pandemic.

Tell us about the top three milestones you have achieved throughout your professional journey.

I have three significant milestones that have shaped my journey. Firstly, achieving the position of C Level in the company and gaining the trust of shareholders and stakeholders has been a major accomplishment for me. Retaining this position has been crucial in demonstrating my capabilities and dedication.

Secondly, completing my master's degree holds immense importance to me as I strongly value education. It has further fueled my ambition to pursue a doctoral degree, which I believe will enhance my professional portfolio and contribute to my personal growth.

Lastly, I take pride in playing a role in the organization's recognition and success in the field of HR management. In 2013, we received the HR Excellence Award and the MAKE Award for our outstanding HR practices. Being part of this achievement has been a significant milestone in my career.

What has been your Mantra for success as a leader in Human Resource?

I appreciate the quote, 'If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.' Teamwork, in my view, is a crucial factor that contributes to a company's performance. As an HR professional, it can be easy to become solely focused on administrative tasks and enforcing company regulations and policies, assuming the role of a policing figure. However, I aspire for my teammates to serve as partners to all employees within the organization.
