Powered by Superior EQs, Women Dominate the Recruitment Industry

Our previous generation was often taught that education was the best suited industry for women. The ambit gradually added banking as another suitable profession for women as both these roles had relatively easier work timings. As a consequence over the years more and more women joined these fields and today overshadow their male counterparts. With time, another profession joined the list of `desirable roles for women' list, ie: Human Resource.

The rise of women in the field of Human Resource began in late 19th century during the age of industrialization. Back in the day women were hired largely to take care of other male workers who were entrusted with physically taxing job roles. The role of an HR executive evolved over time to include other responsibilities such as recruitment, work policies, work place management etc. HR functionshave drastically evolved today to become the backbone of any organization. `Recruitment' is specific is one of the key components of any fledging business, since it enables companies to build a talented and reliable workforce.

In 2017, Payscale.com found that a whopping 86 percent of HR generalists were women. Another study concluded that 57.2 percent of all recruiters in the U.S. are women. Those are extremely positive numbers.

Several theories have attempted to understand and explain why women make betterHR professionals globally. Some attribute it to women's superior ability to manager effectively. Some theories suggest thatwomen are better at multitasking, while some credit it to women's superior ability to judge abstract qualities such as personality, ethics etc. the gist of the matter is thatwomen have superior Emotional Quotient. This enables them to identify emotions and make informed decisions concerning thoughts and behaviors based on this insight. Although men possess a different form of EQ, studies suggest that women possess advanced empathetic and interpersonal skills which are key in handlingkey HR and recruitment functions.

But the role of HR goes way beyond this. It's a demanding profession that ultimately helps organizations create their own cultures.

The field of HR has a plethora of exemplary women leaders who have been redefining the role of HR in the modern world. In our current edition we shine the spotlight of a few such talented women leaders in recruitment. Be it reducing wrong hires, gauging a candidate's innate abilities, improving employee engagement, or getting the right people into the work-force, these women have certainly made a difference.
