IIT Mumbai is recognized across the world as a pioneering educational institution in the field of engineering education and research. Founded in 1958, IIT B is one of the most sought after IITs in the country today. It was the second Indian institute to be set up with foreign assistance. It was in 1961 when the Indian Parliament recognized the IITs as ‘Institutes of National Importance'. Zahara, an engineering graduate in plastics with a post-diploma in computer applications, began her professional journey as a programmer.
