BHU: From Contributing to India's Freedom Struggle to Building Women Leaders of Tomorrow

Women are the bedrock for any nation’s development. All they require is the right opportunities to learn and grow. India as a nation has been committed to nurturing the next generation of women leaders, achievers and thinkers. To this end, several institutions have been put in place not only provide Indian women with world-class education but to also help them gain holistic development which enables them to become the true masters of their destiny.

Banaras Hindu University is a shining example of premier Indian educational institutions that are a seat for higher learning and growth. An internationally reputed institution situated in the holy city of Varanasi, BHU was founded by the great nationalist leader, Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, in 1916. The university has played a crucial role in the India’s movement for independence and has today become a revered institution churning out world-class leaders and achievers.

The current edition of Women Entrepreneur magazine focuses on some such stellar women leaders of today. Dr.Safia Farooqui, Professor/Director, Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth Centre for Online Learning is one of the names on the illustrious list. Dr.Safia Farooqui has decades of experience in teaching and currently, she is Professor/Director at Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth Centre for Online Learning. She believes that her responsibilities are not just curriculum & teaching but also managing classrooms &colleagues.

Dr.Safia is joined by Mamta Borgoyary, CEO, FXB India Suraksha. Mamta has a Master’s degree in Development Economics from BHU and before FXB India Suraksha, she has been associated with some of the reputed organizations in the sector including TERI, Development Alternatives, and the Institute of Economic Growth. Throughout her career, Mamta has mentored teams that have emerged as successful leaders. Most of her work engages in empowering women as she believes when women are elected to leadership positions, they can begin to remove the systemic barriers that prohibit other women from prospering.

Representing the creative world on the list is Mrdu Pankaj, Freelance Screenwriter & Creative Director.

An Alumnus of Banaras Hindu University, Mrdu has pursued a year of the Filmmaking program at the Prague Film School and has eight years of experience in creating exceptional narratives for multiple platforms.

These stellar women are joined by Suvarna Mishra, Head of Human Resources, Sodexo. Suvarna Mishra has completed her formative years at esteemed educational institutions and pursued a graduate degree from the illustrious BHU before pursuing her MBA degree in HR and Marketing from IBS Hyderabad.
