S Phangnon Konyak becomes First Woman Member of Rajya Sabha from Nagaland

S Phangnon Konyak, a politician from Nagaland created history last week as she became the first female member of the Rajya Sabha from her state to preside over as the Vice-chairperson. Earlier in the week S Phangnon had added another significant moment in history by becoming the first-ever female from Nagaland to be selected on the panel of Vice-Chairpersons. She is also the first woman from Nagaland to serve in the Rajya Sabha and also made up the list of second women from the state to be chosen for either the state assembly or the House of Parliament. She walked proudly on the path paved by Rano M. Shaiza who was the only woman Member of India's Lower House, Lok Sabha from the state of Nagaland.

Nirmala Sitharaman among 4 Indian Women on the 'World's Most Powerful Women 2023' List

Forbes has been annually publishing a list of the world's most powerful women, highlighting influential and impactful women across various sectors such as business, politics, entertainment, and philanthropy.

Four Indian women along with other prominent leaders have secured their place at this year's 'World's Most Powerful Women for 2023' based on metrics such as money, media, impact, and spheres of influence. They are Nirmala Sitharaman (32), Roshni Nadar Malhotra (60), Soma Mondal (70) and, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw (76).

Nirmala Sitharaman, India's first female Finance Minister, has been ranked 32 in the Forbes ‘World’s Most Powerful Women for 2023’ list. She has played a crucial role in shaping the country's economic policies and fiscal strategies. With a background in economics and corporate governance, she has implemented economic reforms and addressed economic challenges.

President Draupadi Murmu Makes Maiden Speech in the Parliament

Draupadi Murmu gave her maiden speech to Parliament as president. She expressed her gratitude for selecting her as a stable government for two consecutive times in a row. She pressurized on the points about the various achievements that took place during the Modi-led government. The President addressed the nation in the presence of both Houses during the Budget session.

It will be officially inaugurated by Smriti Zubin Irani, the Union Minister of Women and Child Development. The theme finalized for this year's G20 EMPOWER Summit is 'Women-led Development: Ensuring a Sustainable, Inclusive, and equitable global economic growth.

The event will include participation from experts from G20 countries, guest countries, and international organizations in addition to policymakers and other stakeholders. Various facets of Women's empowerment will be covered during the sessions which will include exploration of the transformative roles of women in leadership positions.

Prominent Women Leaders Attend G20 Summit 2023 in India

The recently concluded G20 Summit 2023 had the global spotlight shining on India. Also known as the Group of Twenty Summit, it is an annual international forum for government leaders from 19 countries and the European Union to congregate and discuss matters of concern. This year, the 18th G20 meeting was hosted by India. Held in the Bharat Mandapam International Exhibition-Convention Centre, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from 9 September to 10 September 2023, the G20 Summit India was presided over by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The event saw the biggest names from global politics arriving in India to be a part of the summit. The G20 Summit India also saw its fair share of women leaders be a part of the dialogue and festivities.
