Women leaders are playing a transformative role in the EdTech industry, bringing a unique blend of empathy, innovation, and strategic vision to the evolving education landscape. Across the sector, they are driving learner-centric solutions, championing inclusivity, and leveraging technology to make quality education more accessible and impactful.
Their leadership is not only shaping organizations but also influencing how education adapts to the needs of future generations. One such inspiring leader is Nisha Mathew, Chief Operating Officer of Vijaysutraa. Her professional journey reflects a powerful convergence of education, entrepreneurship, and a deep commitment to creating meaningful social impact.
With an academic foundation in life sciences and biotechnology, Nisha developed an early appreciation for learning, inquiry, and the transformative power of education. Her passion for teaching led her to academia, where she served as a lecturer in biotechnology, discovering that education was not merely a profession but a purpose.
Guiding students and nurturing their potential became central to her professional identity. What began as a necessity evolved into a profound learning experience in entrepreneurship, leadership, and business management. Inspired by her father’s people-centric approach, she cultivated a leadership style grounded in empathy, humility, and resilience.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, a period of reflection led her back to her first passion, education. She became a certified Career Counsellor and pursued a Master’s degree in Psychology, strengthening her understanding of student aspirations and career development.
These diverse experiences ultimately aligned with the vision of Vijaysutraa. Today, as COO, Nisha combines insights from academia, business leadership, counselling, and psychology to drive innovation, nurture talent, and build systems that deliver meaningful educational outcomes.
Her journey underscores a steadfast belief that education remains one of the most powerful tools for transforming lives and shaping the future. Let’s get to know more about her in this one-on-one interaction.
At Vijaysutraa, we believe education is meaningful only when it creates real outcomes
What core leadership principles guide your decision-making, and how have they evolved throughout your career?
My leadership philosophy is rooted in purpose, people, and continuous learning. Across academia, entrepreneurship, counselling, and EdTech, I have learned that leadership is not about authority but about empowering people to achieve their best.
I believe every decision should create meaningful value and align with a larger mission. I focus on building trust, accountability, and collaboration because organizations grow when people grow. My entrepreneurial journey taught me resilience and adaptability, while my experiences in education reinforced the importance of empathy.
Over time, I have shifted from managing processes to enabling people, measuring success through impact, growth, and long-term value creation.
How does Vijaysutraa ensure meaningful and measurable outcomes for learners?
At Vijaysutraa, we believe education is meaningful only when it creates real outcomes. We begin by understanding each learner’s goals and then provide a structured roadmap through quality content, assessments, mock tests, and performance tracking.
However, success depends on more than academic preparation. Motivation, confidence, discipline, and emotional resilience are equally important. That is why we emphasize mentorship, personalized feedback, and continuous engagement.
I view learners as individuals with aspirations and challenges, not just data points. By combining learning resources with guidance and support, we help students build both competence and confidence, ensuring that progress and achievement remain at the center of everything we do.
How do you ensure strategic goals are aligned with day-to-day operations?
In a startup environment, strategy and execution happen simultaneously. I ensure alignment by maintaining constant communication with teams, sharing priorities, and helping everyone understand the purpose behind their work. When people connect with the larger vision, they naturally become more invested in outcomes.
I balance structure with agility, recognizing that the education landscape is constantly evolving. I believe in leading through involvement, working alongside teams to solve challenges and improve processes. For me, execution is ultimately about people.
By creating clarity, encouraging collaboration, and fostering accountability, I ensure that strategy becomes part of everyday work rather than remaining a document on paper.
How do you build high-performing teams and foster a culture of innovation?
I believe organizations grow only when their people grow. When building teams, I look beyond technical skills and focus on attitude, adaptability, and a willingness to learn. Once the right people are in place, I create clarity, trust, and open communication so they feel empowered to contribute.
I encourage accountability through ownership rather than supervision, helping team members understand the impact of their work. Innovation thrives when people feel safe to experiment and learn from mistakes.
As a lifelong learner, I promote continuous improvement and transparent feedback. When people feel trusted, valued, and aligned with a shared purpose, high performance follows naturally.
What is your long-term vision for Vijaysutraa and the legacy you hope to create?
My vision for Vijaysutraa is to become a leading EdTech platform that makes quality, affordable, and outcome-driven education accessible to every learner, regardless of background or geography. We aim to empower students through innovative learning solutions, strong mentorship, and technology-enabled education.
Beyond helping learners succeed in competitive examinations, I want Vijaysutraa to be recognized as a trusted partner in their aspirations and growth. Personally, I hope to create a legacy of empowerment, - one that helps learners build confidence, unlock opportunities, and transform their futures.
If we can positively impact thousands of lives through education, that would be the most meaningful legacy.
