Dr. Shalini: Driving Deep-Tech Innovation In Solar Energy
Dr. Shalini Singh
Co-Founder & Chief Operating Officer, P3C Technology and Solutions
The global solar energy industry is undergoing rapid transformation as governments and businesses accelerate the transition toward clean and sustainable power. While silicon-based photovoltaic (PV) technology continues to dominate the market, growing demand for higher efficiency and cost-effective energy solutions has intensified 122001such as perovskite photovoltaics. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), solar PV remains the fastest growing renewable power technology globally, positioning deeptech innovators at the forefront of the industry's future.
Among the professionals contributing to this technological evolution is Dr. Shalini, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of P3C Technology and Solutions Pvt. Ltd., a deep-tech company focused on advancing next-generation solar technologies, particularly perovskite photovoltaics. She completed her Ph.D. Materials Science and Engineering and Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi and exchange from Max Planck Institute of Polymer Research, Mainz, Germany, building expertise across electrical engineering, materials science, and advanced energy technologies.
Rather than following a traditional corporate career path, Dr. Shalini began her professional journey with entrepreneurship, co-founding P3C and playing a pivotal role in its growth from a research-driven startup into a technology company developing commercially viable solar innovations. As COO, she leads operational strategy, organizational development, Part of R&D, project execution, and cross-functional collaboration while ensuring that the company's technological vision is translated into scalable solutions. Working closely with researchers, engineers, and industry partners, she has helped establish the operational foundation needed to transform laboratory research into real-world applications. Driven by a commitment to scientific innovation and sustainable energy, Dr. Shalini continues to bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and commercialization, contributing to India's transition towards a cleaner, more sustainable, and energy-secure future.
By empowering individuals and aligning everyone with a common purpose, we have built a culture that supports both organizational excellence and long-term innovation
Which milestones or achievements have played the biggest role in shaping your leadership journey?
My leadership journey has evolved alongside P3C's growth in terms of scaling the technology, raising funding and building research teams. Co-founding a deep-tech company and transforming years of scientific research into commercially relevant renewable energy solutions has been my most defining milestone. Building P3C from the ground up required me to establish operational systems, lead multidisciplinary teams, and collaborate with research institutions, and industry partners. Another significant achievement has been advancing our work in perovskite solar technology, an emerging field with immense potential. Every milestone reinforces my commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and contributing meaningfully to India's clean energy transition.
As Chief Operating Officer, how do you balance operational excellence, innovation, and team empowerment to drive sustainable growth in a rapidly evolving renewable energy industry?
I believe innovation succeeds only when supported by disciplined execution and team dedication. My role is to ensure seamless collaboration between our research, engineering, business, and operations teams through welldefined processes and clear accountability. We have built strong departmental leadership, delegated responsibilities effectively, and hired talent based on organizational needs. At the same time, I encourage every team member to contribute ideas because innovation thrives in collaborative environments. By combining operational discipline, open communication, and trust, we have created a culture where people take ownership while working toward shared business and technology goals. "In every successful company or startup, the team is the foundation of growth. For me, our team is more than colleague. We are like a family, supporting each other, growing together, and working toward a shared vision."
What has been the most significant operational challenge you have faced while scaling P3C, and how did you overcome it?
The biggest operational challenge we faced while scaling P3C was taking our perovskite solar technology from the laboratory to real-world deployment. Developing a promising technology in the lab is one thing, but proving that it can perform reliably in the field is a completely different challenge.
At the same time, there were many misconceptions about perovskite technology. People often questioned its stability, lifetime, and whether it was ready for commercial applications. Instead of being discouraged, we focused on generating reliable performance data, continuously improving the technology, and working closely with our industry partners to validate it under real operating conditions.
Today, we have successfully deployed our modules in the field through collaborations with industry. This journey has taught me that scaling a deep-tech startup is not only about advancing the technology. It is also about building trust, demonstrating reliability, and consistently delivering on your promises.
Which emerging trends do you believe will shape the future of solar technology, and how is P3C preparing for them?
The future of renewable energy will be driven by technologies such as AI-powered monitoring, energy storage, smart grids, and digital twins. However, I believe perovskite photovoltaics will bring the most significant transformation by enabling higher efficiencies, lightweight modules, flexible applications, and tandem solar cells. At P3C, we are investing heavily in research, product validation, and strategic collaborations to accelerate the commercialization of perovskite technology. Our objective is to ensure that breakthrough innovations move beyond laboratories and become practical solutions that strengthen India's renewable energy landscape.
How do you foster collaboration, operational discipline, and talent development while building a high-performing organization?
I believe successful startups are built on collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning. At P3C, we encourage open communication and cross-functional teamwork because our work spans research, engineering, manufacturing, and business development. We establish clear objectives, transparent processes, and measurable accountability to maintain operational discipline. Equally important, we invest in people by encouraging them to develop new skills, share knowledge, and explore innovative ideas. By empowering individuals and aligning everyone with a common purpose, we have built a culture that supports both organizational excellence and long-term innovation.
What are your strategic priorities for P3C, and how do you envision the company contributing to India's renewable energy future?
My priority is to position P3C as a global leader in nextgeneration photovoltaic technologies while supporting India's renewable energy ambitions. We are focused on accelerating the commercialization of perovskite solar technology through research, validation, and strategic collaborations with industry, academia, and government. Alongside expanding our technology portfolio and manufacturing capabilities, we aim to strengthen indigenous innovation under the Make in India initiative. Ultimately, I want P3C to develop advanced solar technologies that enhance India's energy security while demonstrating that world-class clean energy innovation can originate from India.
