WPL Auction Likely to Be Held in New Delhi, BCCI Yet to Confirm

- The WPL auction will be conducted in New Delhi but has not been officially confirmed by the BCCI
- There has been an informal announcement to teams about the venue
- There is expected to be an auction on November 26 and 27, cut short from the initial window of November 26–29
The Women's Premier League (WPL) auction will reportedly take place in New Delhi, but the BCCI has not yet officially announced the location. Informally, teams have been made aware of the suggested venue, according to a Cricbuzz report.
The auction dates have been reduced to November 26 and 27, from the initial period of November 26–29, although the final day has not been decided yet.
In a high-profile event, surprisingly, the auction is likely to be finished in one day. With just five teams in the league and a maximum of 18 players in a squad, the procedure is likely to go quickly even with as many as 90 players going up for bidding.
According to the revised retention policy, franchises can retain a maximum of three capped Indian players, two overseas players, and two uncapped Indian players, with a maximum of five players retained in total.
The system is designed to balance team stability and competitiveness, enabling franchises to retain their core players while opening up opportunities for fresh talent.
For the first time, the Right to Match (RTM) rule will come into effect, allowing teams to exercise the right to pick up a released player by matching the maximum bid in the auction.
Those franchises that keep all five players will have INR 9.25 crore taken away from their auction purse and will not be able to exercise any RTM rights. Retention charges are as follows:
Retention 1: INR 3.50 crore, Retention 2: INR 2.50 crore, Retention 3: INR 1.75 crore, Retention 4: INR 1 crore, Retention 5: INR 50 lakh
The Mumbai Indians (MI) come into the season as the reigning champions, having last year won the 2023 title by beating Delhi Capitals (DC) in the final on both times.
On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), although they were past winners, did not make it into the Eliminator in both 2023 and 2025.
