Women Win 458 Ward Councilor, Mayor & Deputy Mayor Posts in Bihar Municipal Elections

The Bihar Municipal Elections were conducted on 9 June 2023 in which women won 458 ward councilor positions as well as the Mayor and Deputy Mayor positions.
In addition to this, 347 male candidates have also been elected for various positions in 31 municipalities across 21 districts by the Bihar State Election Commission (SEC).
Amid tight security, the counting of the votes for 31 municipal bodies in the state started at 8 am on Sunday. There were 58 centers set up in total to count the votes for the 805-ward councilor, Mayor, and Deputy Mayor positions.
The SEC announced the final results of the Bihar Nagar Nikay elections on Sunday. In total, 4,431 candidates out of which 2,197 men and 2,234 women took part in the municipal elections for Bihar. Nine of these candidates have already been elected prior.
Patna, Buxar, Nawada, Aurangabad, Madhubani, West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Rohtas, Kishanganj, Gopalganj, Darbhanga, Vaishali, Munger, Nawada, Sheohar, Jamui, Muzaffarpur, Lakhisarai, Banka, and Saharsa districts were selected to conduct the voting. Facial Recognition System (FRS) was used by the SEC for the first time to verify voters’ identities.
The officials stated that there will be elections conducted for 31 urban local bodies, including 24 where the election was con conducted in the most recent urban elections held in December and another seven whose five-year terms are coming to an end in June.
