An official said on Saturday that members of women self-help groups (SHGs) from a few tribal villages in Gujarat's Tapi district had been enlisted to produce 5.5 lakh bamboo sticks for carrying tricolours as part of the national government's "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign.
According to Tapi District Development Officer (DDO) Dinesh Kapadia, these SHGs have been given this responsibility as part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), and the bamboo sticks will be delivered to roughly nine districts that have placed orders.
”The women SHGS from around eight tribal villages in Vyara taluka of Tapi have been given this opportunity to contribute to the campaign,” he said. ”A large number of sticks to carry tricolours are being made by the women members of ’sakhi mandali’ (SHGs). When I first met them and shared my idea, they accepted it with great enthusiasm. They have taken up the task of making around 5.5 lakh bamboo sticks with great pride,” Kapadia said.
According to him, there has been a demand for sticks from eight to nine of the state's districts as part of the "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign. "These sticks will be sent to the districts where there is a demand within two days. Each stick will cost between Rs. 4 and Rs. 5. This will assist women in finding employment. More than that, the members have worked really hard on this project, Kapadia remarked.
According to him, the Gujarat Livelihood Promotion Company (Mission Mangalam), the state government's implementing body for the NRLM, had funds sanctioned for the raw material in the amount of Rs 8 lakh.
According to the DDO, the district authority has also enlisted the help of members of 10 different SHGs to distribute tricolours across the taluka's villages as part of the campaign.
The Union Rural Development Ministry's NRLM project seeks to combat rural poverty. In order to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India's independence, the "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" is promoting the "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign, which encourages people to fly the national flag between August 13 and 15.
