Women-sailed INSV docks at Cape Town, part of Navika Sagar Parikrama II

The Indian Naval Sailing Vessel Tarini (INSV), commanded by Lieutenant Commander Dilna K and Lieutenant Commander Roopa A, has docked in Cape Town as part of its historic circumnavigation of the globe, Navika Sagar Parikrama II. The crew, which began its journey in Goa on October 2, 2024, is currently engaged in outreach activities, promoting women's empowerment and maritime cooperation.
The expedition aims to cover approximately 43,300 kilometers, starting from Fremantle, Lyttelton, and Port Stanley and reaching Cape Town as its final destination. It will circle back to Goa at the end of May.
The crew completed the fourth leg of their journey, reaching Cape Town, where they were welcomed by Indian Consul General Ruby Jaspreet, South African Navy Fleet chief of staff Lisa Hendricks, and defence adviser of India in Pretoria Captain Atul Sapahia, along with the South African band performing.
Additionally, INSV Tarini has departed Cape Town after maintenance at Royal Cape Yacht Club, interacts with the South African Navy at Simon's Town Naval Base and Gordon's Bay Naval College, and plans community outreach events.
The Navika Sagar Parikrama II expedition, flagged off by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, aims to promote women's empowerment in the Indian Armed Forces and advance marine and scientific research. The expedition includes stops in Australia, New Zealand, and Port Stanley, with a return to Goa in May 2025.
