As of 2023, the tech women's participation rate in non-tech industries is expected to grow significantly, reaching 19.4 lakh workforce members, according to a report by TeamLease Digital. The reports estimate that this number will have a significant increase of 24.3 per cent by 2027, resulting in 24.1 lakh workers.
The report titled, "Women at the Heart of India's Digital Evolution" highlights several issues that affect women's use of technology. Women's engagement is expected to increase at all levels, including C-Suite, Leadership, Junior, Mi-Senior, and Fresher positions. Even with developments, just 0.5 per cent of female employees hold tech positions in the non-tech industries globally. It is still imperative that more women participate in this field.
At 43 per cent, India has the highest rate of female STEM engagement globally as women's employment is becoming a necessity in the tech industry. Encouraging initiatives like childcare and maternity leave advances women's involvement in the technology industry. Women are more likely to enter the workforce in Tier 1 cities, with Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra to be recruiting the highest. Talent acquisition occurs in cities such as Chennai, Pune, Nasik, Coimbatore, Kochi, Aurangabad, and Vadodara. In the manufacturing sector, 43 per cent of employed women are from Tamil Nadu. However, women at fresher levels have the highest concentration of women standing at 34 per cent.
