Women need to be Responsible for their Finances and be Financially Independent: Priyanka Chopra
By: WE Staff | Tuesday, 19 April 2022
While speaking about fashion and beauty and demanding diversity and inclusion in one of her talks, Priyanka Chopra also brought up an important issue about women's empowerment and financial independence.
The actor stated on a global platform that the root of the problem is a lack of chances for women. “The more opportunities we create for each other, the more sisterhood will grow.”
She recalled starting work when she was 17 years old, with her mother encouraging her that “women should be financially independent.” “It doesn’t matter who your father is or who your husband will be,” Chopra said. “You need to be responsible for your finances and be financially independent. That really stuck with me.”
The ability to financially support oneself for day-to-day needs is the first step toward female empowerment. Women have been taught that their primary role is to be a homemaker, with their profession coming in second.
"No one is going to tell you that you have a chance. Go forth and build a name for yourself. She said, "You're going to do it for yourself."
Chopra is a vocal proponent for gender equality, the gender pay gap, and feminism, as well as other social causes such as the environment and women's rights. She frequently speaks out on women's concerns, such as against female infanticide and foeticide, and in favour of girls' education.
