Indian women entrepreneurs are now increasingly engaging in building startups not only in fintech but also in other high-growth sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI), cloud infrastructure, health tech which were normally the men dominated areas by founders. This change is a reflection of the quick digital transformation of the economy coupled with a higher involvement of women in technology entrepreneurship.

There is now over 8000 women-led tech startups across the nation of India alone, which together have raised funding of approximately $23 billion, according to the startup-sourcing platform Tracxn. Startups founded by women constitute around 14.8 per cent of total tech funding in India, pointing to their growing role in the innovation ecosystem.

In recent years, there has also been quite a remarkable rise in the amount of money allocated to women-led businesses. According to the Indian Startup Funding Report, women-led startups in India attracted an estimated $930 million through 136 transactions in 2024, which is an incredible 94 percent increase compared to the previous year. Fintech was the most popular sector for women-led startups, followed by ecommerce, enterprise technology, healthtech, and cleantech.

One of the most enticing aspects for women founders in deep-tech areas is that it gives them a unique platform to influence the technologies of the future and at the same time find solutions to some of the complicated business issues.

Priyanka Aeron, Founder and CEO of Thrive Global AI, is of the opinion that the fast changing AI and predictive analytics made her dream of creating a software that changes the way businesses make decisions. She explains, “AI enables organisations to move from intuition-based planning to intelligence-driven growth by analysing structured data in real time. Innovation benefits from diverse thinking, and women entrepreneurs bring new perspectives on technology, consumer behaviour and business expansion.”

In the same vein, Kusum Dhanda, Co-Founder and COO of Utho Cloud, reveals that her decision to develop a domestic cloud platform was based on realising the heavy dependence of India on foreign technology infrastructure. Indian enterprises, she believes, must be given cloud solutions.
