A new economic impact report shows that AwakenAngels, Ireland's first women-led investment syndicate, has supported portfolio companies in securing over £4 million.

Founded in 2023 with the specific aim of improving investment prospects for women, the achievement was announced in a joint report with its sister organisation, AwakenHub, an all-island network which supports and develops women-led startups.

The report, entitled "Breaking Barriers. Backing Women. Building Businesses," details the way in which both organizations have created a developing funding and support ecosystem for women founders and investors throughout Ireland.

AwakenAngels only invests in companies based in Ireland with at least one woman founder holding a minimum 20 percent equity stake.

The companies should be from any sector, and all founders pitching to the syndicate must be members of AwakenHub to ensure they are part of a supportive and investment-ready community.

The syndicate currently supports eight portfolio companies - including Yavia, Movetru, ITUS Secure Technologies, KinetikIQ, Konree Innovation, Eve Mobility, Kowroo and BiaSol - which together have risen over £4 million. A further three deals are currently under review.

The report also observes that membership has now doubled to 118 investors, 90 percent of whom are women. 13 experienced deal leaders have joined to help manage the syndicate's growing portfolio.

In addition, the AwakenAngels Investor Academy, itself a CPD-accredited training programme, has trained 75 new investors with another 35 participants starting this month.

Two all-island initiatives, with the support of InterTradeIreland’s Shared Island programme have further strengthened the pipeline of women investing in women.

Co-founder and CEO Clare McGee said the findings point to a sea change in Ireland's investment landscape, with more women founders and investors engaging confidently in funding networks that previously didn't exist.

She invited women founders and investors to join AwakenHub and said she looks forward to exciting opportunities in the future, including an upcoming trade mission to the United States.
