The Indian government has launched the Make In India Initiative, which aims to promote manufacturing in India by increasing investment and creating jobs.
As part of this program, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that women have achieved great success as a result of the Make In India initiative.
According to the minister, the Make In India initiative has played a major role in creating job opportunities and developing the skills of many people through direct and indirect methods.
Ashwini believes that India has a highly skilled workforce and is developing the skills and expertise that will be required to meet the next generation of electronics manufacturing, which will entail emerging technologies such as: robotics; drones; electric vehicles; smart mobility; advanced components; tooling; and others.
In addition to the production-linked incentive (PLI) Programme that created over 14.39 lakh direct and indirect jobs by attracting manufacturing investments of more than Rs 2.16 lakh crores by December 31 2025; the unit sales under the PLI Programme reached a total value of Rs 20, 41 lakh crores; total electronic exports are Rs 8.3 lakh crores, and the total amount of incentive payments made through the Programme was Rs 28,748 crores.
The Minister stated that since 2020/21, mobile phone imports have fallen by about 77 percent and that the vast majority of domestic demand for mobile phones is being met from production in India, while manufacturing now extends through assembly into major assembly components including printed circuit boards, batteries, camera and display modules and enclosures, helping to further connect to global supply chains.
The domestic manufacturing capabilities for assembly IT hardware has also expanded as a result of greater localised procurement of parts, making them higher quality than before.
As part of the Union Budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced India semiconductor mission 2.0 and made a commitment of additional Rs 40,000 crore for the development of electronics manufacturing, both of which are intended to spur domestic production and create further jobs.
