By: WE Team | Monday, 24 July 2023
The Women Doctor's Wing, IMA, Jharkhand, is on a mission to make Jharkhand the first cervical cancer-free state in India through women empowerment and health camps. In this endeavor, a Mega Women Health Camp for Breast and Cervical Cancer Eradication was organized at Sadar Hospital, Deoghar.
The camp was inaugurated by Health Minister Banna Gupta, who also dedicated Cervical Pre Cancer testing and screening equipment to the region. Dr. Bharti Kashyap, Chairperson of the Women Doctors' Wing, revealed that approximately 67,000 women in India succumb to cervical cancer each year, underscoring the urgency of their efforts.
The Women Doctors' Wing has been diligently organizing Mega Women Health Camps in rural areas, focusing on tackling cervical cancer. Their "Jharkhand Model" strategy has been embraced by the state health department, recognizing its potential to make a substantial impact.
During the camp, screenings effectively identified women with pelvic inflammation and pre-cancer symptoms, ensuring they received proper treatment promptly. The ultimate goal is to achieve a cervical cancer-free Jharkhand through the implementation of their indigenous Jharkhand Model.
A total of 615 women underwent screenings for cervical and breast cancer symptoms at the Deoghar Camp, with a staggering 80% found to be suffering from pelvic inflammation. Moreover, 26 women tested VUA positive, while 18 received essential treatment for cervical pre-cancer symptoms using Colposcope Guided Cryo machines.
Women attending the camp were not only provided with medical care but also received one month's supply of iron folic acid and calcium tablets at no cost.
Additionally, Dr. Megha Mittal and her team took the initiative to train gynecologists on early detection and treatment of cervical pre-cancer, further enhancing the impact of the camp and promoting sustainable healthcare practices. The Women Doctors' Wing's efforts are not only empowering women but also shaping a healthier and cancer-free future for the state.
