In recent years, there has been a surge in the number of women directors making waves in the film industry. These women are redefining what it means to be a director in the modern age, and they are changing the face of cinema as we know it.

Some of the most popular and well-known women directors today include a,b and c. These women have all made incredible strides in the industry, and they are paving the way for other women to do the same.

These women directors are just a few of the many that are redefining cinema in the modern age. They are changing the way we see women in the industry, and they are inspiring other women to pursue careers in directing.

Aarti Kadav

Aarti Kadav born and raised in Nagpur is an award-winning writer, director, and producer who resides and work's in Mumbai. In the initial days of her career, she worked as a software developer in the US as she was a computer science student but later she left this path and enrolled in a film directing school at Whistling Woods International in Mumbai.

In her career as a film director, she has produced six short films, some advertisements, and music promos. One of the short films was a 40-minute documentary named as Time Machine which was released in 2017 and is currently accessible on Amazon and Mubi. Her first motion picture, Cargo which was released in 2019, is a popular science fiction drama that examines life, death, and also reincarnation-related issues of life. It got screened at 27 film festivals worldwide including SXSW and the Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival, where it was well recognized and received two major awards i.e. Audience awards and best Sci-Fi Feature award. Aarti was also nominated in the Shanghai Film Festival for the Asian New Talent awards.

Anubhuti Kashyap

Anubhuti Kashyap is the sister of the notorious actor and film director Anurag Kashyap. She is mostly known for her work in the very famous film, Gangs of wasseypur where she worked as an assistant director and, now, DoctorG in 2022 showered her great recognition. Anubhuti started her career with the film DevD. Doctor G has been a great success in 2022 where Ayushmann Khurana played the lead role. The director has severed the emotional tie that tied her to her debut feature film Doctor G during the first three weeks in order to conquest a detached viewpoint. Her creation of such Gen-Z-style films is a brownie point for her career in this new generation. The black comedy Afsos, which she directed for Amazon Prime, abetted her gain ubiquitous fame.

Anvita Dutt

Anvita Dutt Guptan is a well-known female director of Bollywood movies and web series. She is also a lyricist, scriptwriter, dialogue writer, and screenplay writer. He began her career in an advertising agency and devoted herself to 14 years in this field. After that, she became a dialogue writer in popular films like Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and Parineeta, and additionally, she gained the chance to become a lyricist and screenwriter and also wrote dialogues for Nadiadwala Grandson Films. On June 24, 2020, her first movie, Bulbbul was released as a Netflix Original and received positive reviews from both the public and critics for its feminism-related stance, visual effects, background music, and mainly for the lead actress Tripti Dimri's performance.

The story of Bulbbulcenters on a child bride who shows her transformation from a helpless child to growing up a strong and independent woman against the backdrop of the Bengal presidency in the 1880s.

Qala, which is her second film as a director, features again Tripti Dimri. She acts as a protagonist which reveals the dark side of ambition and an abusive upbringing. This film was released on December 1, 2022.

Jasmeet K Reen

When Jasmeet K. Reen first started her career, she was employed by McCann Erickson and Ogilvy & Mather in the advertising industry. She decisively began working as an assistant on advertisements after enrolling in a summer school at the Film and Television Institute of India. Reen is well recognized as a writer for the films ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh’ and ‘Force 2’. She ultimately unearthed herself in the Hindi film industry thanks to her love of movies. Prior to starting the writing for her first movie, "Darlings," Jasmeet worked as a Chief AD, Deputy Director, and Screenplay Writer. During its first weekend, viewers viewed the movie for more than 10 million hours, making it the non-English Indian picture here on the video dais with the biggest global opening.

Rima Das

Filmmaker Rima Das who is born in the year 1982 is widely popular for her movie, Village Rockstars, which received numerous national and international awards. Village Rockstars was released in the year 2017 and is an Indian Assamese language modern drama. This film centers on a 10-year-old girl who meets some boys and develops a bond of friendship, she had aspirations of becoming a rock star.

It received many awards including Best Feature Film 'Swarna Kamal' at the 65th National Film Awards in the year 2018. It also achieved prizes such as Best Child Artist, Best Editing, and Best Location Sound Recordist.

Rohena Gera

Rohena Gera is none other than the director of the film ‘Is love enough?’ And ‘Sir’ which put a strong impact on the audience when it was released on OTT. The film ‘Sir’, which had its international premiere in Cannes in 2018 and has since won numerous awards is one of the best projects of Gera’s career. In addition, Rohena Gera has written and directed the 2013 documentary "What's Love Got to Do with It? This film is a comedic portrayal of affluent and urban Indians who harmonize with traditional and cultural expectations for love, marriage, happiness, and living a happy life is presented in the movie. Apart from being a director, Rohena is a screenwriter and producer as well.
