West Bengal Police Launch PACE, 1000 Women to Get Jobs

The West Bengal police has introduced a first-of-its-kind community policing initiative that links educated youth who are jobless directly with the private employers and aims to issue appointment letters to 1,000 women in the first phase of recruitment in the West Midnapore district.
The project, dubbed Police Assistance in Career and Employment Enhancement (PACE), is implemented by the district police, assisted by the state government, to establish a transparent and technology-driven employment platform. The idea behind the app is to remove the middlemen from the entire hiring process and the company can go directly to the one seeking a job.
Superintendent of Police Papia Sultana, announcing the program at a press conference on Monday, said the program is aimed at reducing unemployment and the recruitment process will be done under the police's supervision. The district administration plans to have a sustainable job creation strategy: to provide and formalize private sector jobs through a single digital platform.
The district police has already tied up with 28 business houses and talks are on to recruit more businesses. Companies taking part will post information on the PACE app about the vacancies they are offering, such as the education required, salary, tasks, place of work, and more. Eligible candidates can fill out applications without recruitment agents and intermediaries via the App.
Key Highlights:
- West Bengal Police launched PACE app to connect unemployed youth with private employers
- 1,000 women to receive appointment letters in the first phase
- 28 companies join initiative, prioritising local hiring and women's employment
The recruitment schedule scheduled by police says that the online application process will start from July 21 and will continue till July 31. Document verification and interviews will be held from August 1 – 10. With the recruitment process on track, successful candidates will be notified with their appointment letters ahead of Independence Day.
The first phase of the programme is specifically for female students who have passed Madhyamik (Class 10) or have higher educational qualifications and are 18 years or older. Around 1,000 women are to be appointed through the program this August, officials say.
The project aims to reach out to the unemployed youth of West Midnapore district but the candidates who currently reside in West Midnapore district from other districts will also be able to register at the site and apply accordingly for the project. The platform will help women to participate more in the workforce and provide jobs that are more local to them, police said.
On the industry's side, Sultana said those firms that have applied have pledged that 80 to 90 percent of the job positions available to them will go to local candidates. To further encourage women's involvement in the economy, the companies have also agreed that a minimum of 30 per cent of recruitment will be done amongst women.
The PACE project is not simply a policing action, but a way to tackle one of the major socio-economic issues of young people, officials said. The district police aim to establish a sustainable employment system, fostering transparency, curbing fraudulent recruitment methods, and enhancing community involvement by developing a certified digital platform to connect industries with the educated youth.
