United Way Bengaluru & GEIIPL distributes 6 E-Autos to Marginalized Women

United Way Bengaluru and GE Aerospace in India Industrial Pvt Ltd (GEIIPL) have distributed six e-autos equipped with smartphones to marginalized women in Bengaluru. The eco-friendly e-autos, which facilitate ride management through aggregator platforms, contribute to reduced air pollution, carbon, and noise pollution. The partnership aims to empower women to take charge of their lives and earn a livelihood with dignity.
The announcement was made during an event on 20 January 2025 at the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru. Key attendees marked their presence including Bengaluru Police Commissioner, Shri B. Dayananda, IPS; Sanjeev Jha, India Volunteering Leader, GE Aerospace, and Rajesh Krishnan, CEO of United Way Bengaluru.
This program, created for sustainable livelihood opportunities for women from marginalized communities and is supported by Parihar, an initiative from the Bengaluru City Commissioner's Office. The program trains women to operate e-autos and partner with cab aggregators. The e-autos will be fitted with a smartphone for riders to manage ride requests. The eco-friendly autos aim to reduce air pollution and carbon emissions along with decreasing noise pollution in Bengaluru's urban areas.
IPS, Police Commissioner of Bengaluru, Shri B. Dayananda mentioned "This initiative showcases the strength of Public-Private Partnerships in creating meaningful change. By empowering marginalized women with the support of GEIIPL through United Way Bengaluru, and promoting eco-friendly mobility, we are driving both social and environmental progress for a better Bengaluru."
