Union Minister Smriti Irani tests Covid positive for second time

Smriti Irani, the Union Minister for Women and Child Development announced on Sunday that she has tested Covid positive.This is the second time that Irani has tested positive for Covid; she was previously infected in 2020.
The Union minister made the announcement through the micro blogging platform Twitter. Irani was slated to attend a programmeorganized by the BJP in Delhi’s Rajendra Nagar, ahead of the Assembly bypoll to be held on June 23. In her tweet Irani apologized to residents of Rajendra Nagar.
"I seek pardon of Rajendra Nagar's people for not being able to take part in the programmeorganized there, as my Covid test has come out positive," she said in the tweet. She also appealed to people to vote for the BJP candidate.
India has recorded over 12,000 new Covid cases for the fifth day in a row today. The country now has an active case load of over 76,000 according to the latest health bulletin shows.
According to data shared by the health ministry's daily bulletin, 12,781 new cases were registered within the last 24 hours.
