By: WE Staff | Thursday, 8 February 2024
UN Women has praised Kerala's Gender Budget initiative for its commitment to women's empowerment, highlighting the state's efforts during a meeting with the state Health Minister. Kerala has allocated Rs 4,670.22 crore for the gender budget over the fiscal year 2023-24, out of a total plan outlay of Rs 22,112 crore.
This budget prioritizes gender parity and seeks to improve the status of women in a number of fields. Kerala's Safe City Project, which aims to locate crime hotspots against women, will get technical support from UN Women. In order to improve women's safety, the initiative involves employing technology, raising community awareness, and constructing infrastructure.
The state of Kerala has established a Gender Data Hub with support from UN Women. The aim of this project is to provide the state with an extensive gender-disaggregated database. The information will be used in planning and later shared with other states. UN Women and Kerala's gender parks will work collaboratively. These parks contribute to the empowerment of women and people of all gender identities, including transgender people, and play a critical role in creative interventions.
