- The Sanjeevini scheme in Udupi is commended for using innovation to promote women's empowerment
- Women in self-help groups (SHGs) play a key role in the program's success, demonstrating grassroots entrepreneurship
The Udupi district's Sanjeevini scheme has won praise for its progressive stance on women's empowerment. Members of Sanjeevini self-help groups (SHGs) are now opening and running sales outlets, providing a direct market platform for their goods, in a major move to support female entrepreneurs.
In addition to starting their own companies, these women are assisting in the expansion of the market for goods made by other female entrepreneurs. The project intends to open these community stores, known as "Akka Sanjeevini Angadi," in a number of gram panchayats.
Shirva and Katapadi gram panchayats in Kaup taluk were chosen to carry out the project on a pilot basis. These model outlets were recently opened by Kaup MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty, who praised the contribution of women to the transformation of communities and households.
He underlined how programs like Sanjeevini are helping society transition from male-dominated to women-led advancement and how women are increasingly assuming leadership roles outside of the home. He was hopeful that there would be a large number of additional Akka Sanjeevini Angadi stores opened throughout the area.
Udupi remains a state-wide model for women-centered development thanks to the district's creative initiatives.
