Punjab's Jaspreet Kaur Receives National Award for Using Sports to Empower Women & Girls

32-year-old Jaspreet Kaur, a youth leader with YFC Rurka Kalan from Jalandhar has been awarded the Woman Exemplar Award. National recognition was bestowed on her for her contribution to leveraging sports as a tool for empowering people regarding sexual reproductive health. Jaspreet is the only woman from Punjab to have received the honor.

Jaspreet received the award from the hands of the Union Minister for Women, Child Development and Minority Affairs, Smriti Zubin Irani.

$5 Million provided to Women's Colleges to address STEM Gender Gap by NASA

Seven Women's Colleges and Universities (WCUs) will receive more than $5 million in funding from NASA as a part of the Biden/Harris initiative to conduct research and develop strategies that improve the retention of women in STEM degree programs and careers.

The opportunity for Women's Colleges and Universities was developed by the agency's Minority University Research and Education Project (MUREP) to assist women in overcoming challenges and barriers to build their careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

JKEDI and Startup India Collaborate for a Workshop to Empower Women

A workshop aimed at empowering female entrepreneurs in the UT of J&K was jointly organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) and Startup India (DPIIT), both organizations of the Indian Government. Under the general direction of the Commissioner Secretary of Industries and Commerce, the workshop was started.

Avaana Capital, an Indian climate-focused venture capital firm, has achieved a significant milestone in India's emerging climate-tech ecosystem by securing commitments of $70 million for their first close in Avaana Climate and Sustainability Fund. The firm is targeting a total corpus of $100-125 million for the fund, which will focus investments in three sectors that are responsible for 90% of India's emissions: Energy Transition & Resource Management; Mobility & Supply Chains, and; Sustainable Agriculture & Food Systems.

Afghanistan Receives Warning from IOC for Denying Sports for Females at Paris Olympics

The IOC raised concerns about the eligibility of Afghanistan's team for the 2024 Paris Olympics on Wednesday due to its increasing frustration with the Taliban's refusal over women's and girls’ access to sports.

Despite making repeated calls for action over this matter, the International Olympic Committee stated that it "continues to be extremely concerned" about the state of sports in Afghanistan.

FM Nirmala Sitharaman outlines Important Financial Inclusion Measures at Paris Summit

Nirmala Sitharaman, Indian finance minister has outlined some of the most important steps taken by the central government to ensure financial inclusion on Thursday.

While addressing the summit for the New Global Financing Pact in Paris, she stated about the majority of benefits can be directly transferred to the bank accounts of the citizens. She mentioned to the delegates that the government was able to save Rs 1 lakh crore after the implementation of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) through direct benefit transfer in just one of the provinces in India. By introducing DPI, the usage of taxpayer find has been done more effectively.

India to face Canada in FIH Junior Women's World Cup 2023

India will begin its campaign against Canada on November 29 at the Field Hockey Sports Centre, National Stadium, Santiago, Chile, before taking on Germany on 30 November as a part of Pool C of the FIH Junior Women's World Cup 2023.

On 2 December 2023, the Indian female team will compete against Belgium in their final pool match. On December 10, the World Cup final will be played.
