Telangana to Set Up New Hub for Women Entrepreneurs

The Telangana government is mulling the establishment of a new women entrepreneurs hub on the outskirts of Hyderabad, similar to the women entrepreneurs hub, FICCI Ladies Organization (FLO), Industrial Park at Patancheru, in the state, A. Revanth Reddy, the chief minister of the state, said on Saturday.

The statement came during a meeting with a team of women entrepreneurs from FLO to discuss further strengthening of women entrepreneurs and increasing economic opportunities for women in the state.

In this context, the government would be providing 1,000 square yards of land next to Shilparamam in Hitec City for the building of FICCI's headquarters, Revanth Reddy added. Further, an acre of land will be given in Bharat Future City for FLO to become a partner with one of the flagship development projects of the State of Telangana.

In this context, the government is working towards empowering women through self-help groups (SHGs) and the Chief Minister said 22 district headquarters are witnessing the establishment of Indira Mahila Shakti Bhavans. These centres are being established using the infrastructure of the corporate level and will be used as skill development centres, marketing and business promotion centres for women entrepreneurs. He also said that foundation stones have been laid for 8000 Indira Stree Shakti Bhavans in the state to further strengthen the SHG network.

The government is trying to give women's self-help group products a global market as they can now be sold on Amazon, Revanth Reddy said. He further advised FLO to ensure that awards are given to the existing SHGs annually for their excellence in business and entrepreneurship on the theme of women entrepreneurs.

The Chief Minister pointed out that FLO is celebrating its silver jubilee this year and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is to complete 100 years in 2027.

He also showcased the success of Indira Mahila Shakti Bazaar near Shilparamam as a model of empowerment of women. He said that the government has provided land with a value of almost ₹1,000 crore for the project, which has seen over 150 shops run by women SHGs sell rural handicrafts, handloom products and traditional produce with success.

Ensuring their continued engagement with women entrepreneurs, Revanth Reddy announced that he will meet them every three months for review meetings to learn about their problems and needs and help them grow their businesses by providing timely government assistance.

The Chief Minister said that Telangana women SHGs are transforming the state with socio-economic changes. Almost 67 lakh women are now members of SHGs and loans of ₹16,000 crore have already been disbursed to help them in their income-generating activities. He said that women are now running petrol pumps and running businesses in various sectors along major corporate enterprises.

The government has taken a bold step to put a target of 1000 MW of solar power from the Indira Mahila Shakti program under the ownership and management of women SHGs, thus making solar energy an exciting new possibility in the renewable energy space.

Revanth Reddy also mentioned that women SHGs are given the responsibility to maintain 27 thousand government schools in Telangana. Moreover, they have been given the charge of stitching two pairs of uniforms for 27.5 lakh students of Government school, for which the Government is paying ₹75 per uniform, which is another big source of livelihood for thousands of women in the state.
