Gujarat Giants secured a 5-wicket win in Match 17 of the TATA Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025, securing No.2 in the points table. Harleen Deol's match-winning knock, supported by Beth Mooney, Deandra Dottin, and Ashleigh Gardner, secured the victory, despite DC's disciplined bowling effort.
Held at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, Delhi Capitals started strong with a good opening partnership between Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma, who scored 12 runs in the first over. However, Shafali fell for a 40 off 27, and Meg continued her masterclass, becoming the league's all-time leading run-scorer. Gujarat Giants pulled back with wickets of Jess Jonassen and Jemimah Rodrigues, but Meg's exquisite strokeplay of 92 off 57 kept DC ahead. Sarah Bryce finished the over with a six, giving DC a 177/5 victory.
While chasing the target, Gujarat Giants lost early wicket of Dayalan Hemalatha. However, Beth Mooney and Harleen Deol counterattacked with composure and precision, despite managing just 38/1 in the powerplay. The 85-run stand between them was broken when Minnu Mani dismissed Beth. Skipper Ashleigh Gardner launched two monstrous sixes, but Shikha Pandey's return spell ended her counterattack. Deandra Dottin made an immediate impact, but Jess Jonassen's brilliance turned the tide. Harleen's unbeaten knock, laced with nine fours and a six, ensured GG crossed the line in a nerve-swaying contest scoring 178/5 in 19.3 overs.
