TATA WPL 2024: Mumbai Indians defeat Gujarat Giants with 5 wickets

The third match of the most exciting tournament, the Women's Premier League (TATA WPL) 2024 was scheduled between the Gujarat Giants against defending champions, the Mumbai Indians at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur led the team, MI defeated GG with 5 wickets securing the run chase.

Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bowl first where they restricted Beth Mooney-led team Gujarat Giants to just make a score of 126 losing 9 wickets in 20 overs.

The phenomenal all-rounder performer of Mumbai Indians, Amelia Kerr offered fantastic gameplay by taking 4 crucial wickets of GG. The MI women had shown a great bowling performance led by Shabnim Ismail (3/18) and Amelia Kerr (4/17). These wickets resulted in MI grabbing the victory over their name.

The composed knocks from MI were played by captain Harmanpreet Kaur scoring (46* off 41) and Amelia Kerr with 31 runs. The openers, left-handed batter Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews were dismissed by Kathryn Bryce and Tanuja Kanwer in the initials 4 overs of the second innings. MI also lost other players including Nat Sciver-Brunt (22 off 18) and Pooja Vastrakar at an early stage.

Skipper Harmanpreet and Amelia, added 66(50) losing the fourth wicket in the 14th over but soon after that, Lea Tahuhu of GG grabbed Amelia's wicket for LBW. However, the margin was quite close, Captain Kaur kept calm and made the winning runs with a six securing two wins in a row in the tournament.

The Player of the Match was Amelia Kerr for her brilliant spell of 4/17 whereas the Sintex Six title was presented to Captain Harmanpreet Kaur for her match-winning Six.
