TATA WPL 2024: MI Clinches Victory over DC by 4 Wickets

Mumbai Indians, the defending champions won the maiden WPL 2024 match in a nail-biting finish. Being played at Bangalore’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the match saw MI defeat DC by four wickets.
MI women showcased a brilliant score with captain Harmanpreet Kaur scoring 55 runs while Yastika Bhatia became the highest left-handed scorer with 57 runs out of 45 balls. 2 wickets each were grabbed by Alice Capsey and Arundhati Reddy whereas 1 each was taken by Marizzane Kapp and Shikha Pandey.
The margin was set by Delhi Capitals with 171 runs with a loss of 5 wickets. Shafali Verma faced an early knock. While Meg and Alice took some time to get on the track, they managed to just score 26 runs, the lowest by any franchise so far. The players of DC contributed respective highest scores, Alice Capsey with 75 runs, and Jemimah Rodrigues with 42 runs.
The winning team of the inaugural match scored 173/6 in 20 overs with the respective highest scores, Yastika Bhatia with 57 runs, and Harmanpreet Kaur with 55 runs.
The Player of the Match was named Harmanpreet Kaur (MI) for her match-winning innings. Jemimah Rodrigues (MI) was named Electric Striker of the Match with a strike rate of 175. Alice Capsey (DC) titled Most Sixes in the Match with three sixes whereas Sanjeevan Sajana of Mumbai Indians became the first woman to hit a winning six on the first ball in the history of WPL.
