Tata Communications launches 'S.H.E' Initiative to Promote Entrepreneurship

By: WE Staff | Thursday, 20 May 2021

At the UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development in 2021, Tata Communications, a global digital ecosystem enabler, announced the launch of the 'School of Hope and Empowerment (S.H.E.).

S.H.E. is a multi-media, multi-stakeholder impact communications programme developed in conjunction with The Better India, an effect driven Indian digital media platform, to assist and educate women from small towns in India in overcoming significant barriers to entrepreneurship.

Tata Communications will develop enabling conditions for, by, and for women from marginalised groups to develop themselves as entrepreneurs and leaders in their communities by using the potential of digital connection and collaborations.

S.H.E. is a collection of short films that illustrate the obstacles women encounter in becoming entrepreneurs, including gender stereotypes, family obligations, financial and societal restraints, and a lack of self-confidence. At the UNESCO event, the teaser for the six-part video series portraying Hasrat Bano's amazing path as a real-life rural women entrepreneur was presented.

"When you decide to do a business, being a man or a woman does not make a difference, your brain and thinking does," said Hasrat Bano. "S.H.E. is a milestone project in the journey of women like me who dream to become entrepreneurs. This initiative provides us with the knowledge and guidance to use technology, learn new skills and become financially independent. It creates opportunities for us at a local level that helps us run a business. We are grateful for this platform and hope women in rural India are able to benefit from this."

Tata Communications intends to highlight successful local female entrepreneurs' stories and provide them with resources such as business grants, mentorship, and digital training, among other things. As a result, women will be encouraged to attain financial independence in order to pursue and realise their dreams. Technical and expertise partners, in addition to The Better India, will aid in the program's implementation.

The goal of this project is to motivate at least one million women to pursue their ambitions of becoming business owners. S.H.E. focuses on ambitious women entrepreneurs from low-income families in the peri-urban districts of Dhanbad, Bokaro, East Singhbhum, Hazaribagh, and Ranchi in Jharkhand in the first phase.

With only 25% of women in the labour force and limited employment opportunities in the region, this initiative will address the obstacles of the financial independence of these women. The project's next two phases will focus on empowering entrepreneurial women in Odisha and Bihar.

Shares of TATA COMMUNICATIONS LTD. was last traded at Rs.1057.45 on the BSE, compared to a previous close of Rs. 1069.6. The total number of shares traded during the day was 32486 in over 2754 trades.

The stock traded at a high of Rs. 1094.1 and a low of Rs. 1053.55 during the day. During the day, the total net turnover was Rs. 34706119.
